BROMHEXINE

Category: Veterinary mucolytic for respiratory support in animals

Indication

Bromhexine is indicated in animals for:

• Treatment of respiratory disorders associated with excessive or viscid mucus secretion, such as bronchitis, bronchopneumonia, laryngotracheitis, rhinitis, tracheitis, and other airway-diseases where mucus clearance is impaired.

Dosage & Administration

General guidance (subject to label instructions):

• Route: Oral (in drinking water or feed) and/or intramuscular (IM) injection, depending on formulation.

• Cattle: ~0.5 mg Bromhexine/kg body weight once daily for 5 days (oral) in powder format.

• Pigs: ~0.2-0.5 mg/kg body weight once daily for 5 days.

• Dogs: ~2 mg/kg body weight orally twice daily for 5 days (as powder) or ~2.5 mL/kg body weight orally twice daily for 5 days (liquid).

• Cats: ~1 mg/kg body weight once daily for 7 days (powder) or dosage per available liquid.

• Poultry: Example: 1 g powder per 4-5 L drinking water once daily for 5-7 days.
